Globally, there are over 250 million adults with Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy. Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy, or nerve damage, leads to numbness and loss of sensation in patient’s lower extremities. That’s why they cannot feel any problems on their feet. This condition often leads to foot ulcers, one of the most common complications of diabetes that diet, exercise, and insulin treatment cannot address. According to reports, every 1.2 seconds someone in the U.S.develops a Diabetic Foot Ulcer (DFU). One in four DFUs results in an amputation, amounting to over 130,000 people per year. This DFU problem costs the U.S. healthcare system over $15 billion per year.

XtremedX, a medical device and product innovation company, is developing a Temperature and Pressure Sensing Insole for Diabetics to prevent foot ulcers. The insoles come integrated with thermistors and pressure sensors to monitor and measure the temperature and pressure of the key pressure points of a person’s foot. The sensors are powerful enough to alert the patients, physicians, and caregivers about a possible ulceration four to six weeks early. This early diagnosis is critical in preventing infections, hospitalizations, and/or amputations.

XtremedX separates itself from the market with its unique and innovative products. Its pipeline is currently packed with several upcoming prototype developments, including the insole, which will be launched in 2022. To name a few of the other products, the TKR Smart Knee Replacement Implantable Insert uses specialized built-in sensors that allow surgeons to monitor the pressure on the implant, so that they would have a more precise surgical fit. The Automatic Spinal Rod Bender is an automated machine that makes spinal rod bending faster and more precise, leading to fewer post-operative issues for patients and doctors.

Next is Sutureless Surgical Drain Attachment, which is an alternative for painful and stitched surgical drains. Finally, Sensor Sleep is another of the company’s marvels that offers a cost-effective smart bed sensor technology to monitor how well a person sleeps. “We’re continuously evolving our product range to help providers offer the best-in-class treatment and positively impact more patient lives,” prides Marshbanks. “When it comes to commercializing our products post-development, we search for strategic partnerships who are interested in our common goal.”

XtremedX nurtures research relationships with Duke University, Clemson University, and the University of South Carolina. Currently, the University of South Carolina Capstone Design Project, the Honors program in Bioengineering, is working on two of their products. The company also constantly gets offered new product ideas from the various universities, leading to a constant expansion of their pipeline.

With upcoming new products under development, XtremedX intends to become one of the highest quality medical device innovators in the market while keeping in mind the industry needs. As the next step in its evolution, the company plans to extend its footprint into South America and Switzerland through new venture partnerships.
