The VI ByPass Syringe® connects directly to a venipuncture extension set. As the plunger is pulled, an internal sliding fluid seal separates up to 4mls of flush solution or blood, which may result in a poor-quality sample, into a sealed waste chamber. The diagnostic sample then flows through a center conduit, slowing the flow of blood, which helps protect cell structure and reduces hemolysis, one of the most common causes of rejected samples in hospital labs. And because everything happens within the same device, there’s no need to swap syringes mid-procedure or transfer the blood to a tube or bottle with a separate device.
