Perhaps this quote best sums up the creation of uLabs SystemsTM, Inc. The idea behind this next generation clear aligner treatment system was born at a breakfast table, during a post-wedding gathering of old friends and colleagues who helped to develop the industry-first clear aligner system—Invisalign®.

During this casual discussion, Amir Abolfathi, co-founder and CEO of uLab, discovered that orthodontists were fabricating aligners in their clinics, not for the cost savings, but to have complete control over the care delivery process. This commitment and passion impressed Abolfathi, who quickly teamed up with Charlie Wen, co-founder, CTO, and President of uLab. They realized that with the advances in technology since the first aligner system came to market in 1999, they could streamline the treatment planning process while putting the orthodontist back in control. The result: uLab’s treatment planning and clear aligner system— designed to be significantly more advanced than other aligner systems.

Team uLab combined the power of artificial intelligence, 3D printing and intra-oral scanners to bring new possibilities and greater savings to orthodontists. uLab changed the game by enabling orthodontists to design an efficient treatment plan that remains under their control. The plan allows them to complete their plan in as few as 10 minutes. Since the orthodontist controls the software, there’s no more back-and-forth with a remote dental technology. uLab’s success story wouldn’t have been possible without the insight of Charlie Wen. He designed a novel digital orthodontic platform that can treatment plan aligner cases, traditional fixed appliances or cases that combine both treatment modalities for optimal outcome. The founders are particularly excited about their patented RetouchTM technology (coming early 2021) that has the potential to significantly reduce the need for lengthy end-of-treatment refinements.
