For SPDs, the increased efficiency gained from the elimination of blue wrap means faster throughput—15 trays of instruments can be loaded and ready for sterilization in just four minutes. This increases opportunities for instrument inspection and enables hospitals to double their SPD capacity.

In the OR, the Pod dramatically reduces the instrument set up time, reducing the risk of contamination and freeing up nurses to focus more closely on patient care. Driving Success for Clients

While there are enthusiastic boosters of the Pod in hospitals and surgery centers across the country, its advantages are more than anecdotal. Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in Fort Sam Houston, Texas, conducted a trial with the Pod. The results, across multiple aspects of the surgical process, were impressive.



Surgical turnover time was reduced by 49 percent to just 20 minutes. Room setup was reduced from 24 minutes to a remarkable one minute and 47 seconds. With no need to wrap trays, one of the most common events compromising sterility, holes in blue wrap, was eliminated.
Waste management is another critical factor in surgical processes. Prior to implementing the Pod, the BAMC OR produced 4 to 5 large bags of waste per surgery. After using the Pod, only two bags of waste were generated, presenting a 50 to 60 percent improvement.



Finally, the Pod proved to be significantly more efficient when comparing the time taken to prepare and wrap the same number of trays for sterilization. Using the Pod versus blue wrap reduced the time from 72 minutes to 35 minutes or 51 percent, demonstrating the Pod’s value in improving operational efficiency and reducing the time wasted on non-value-added tasks.
