Accelerating The Growth Of Disposable Endoscopes

While endoscopic spine surgery is still in its nascency, the interest and buzz it has created in the last few years indicate that things are about to change. In addition to providing the ability to perform surgeries through pencil-sized incisions, endoscopic spinal procedures have the potential benefits of reduced postoperative infections, hospitalization times, time out of work, and chance of developing instability requiring future fusion. Despite these advantages, the cost associated with endoscopes and the dearth of trained physicians act as key barriers to the large scale adoption of the equipment. However, now, Techcord, a Korean medical devices company, is all set to change the status quo of the spinal surgery industry with its endoscopic equipment.

“Our devices act as an effective alternative to the German endoscopic devices that most physicians rely on. They offer higher resolution in contrast to German equipment and are cost-effective,” says James Choi, Founder and CEO, Techcord. In fact, Techcord’s equipment is more durable than the German endoscope because it adopts strong brazing sealing technology for the objective lens of the endoscope.

Techcord was initially established as an organization that offered repair and restoration services on medical endoscopes, surgical drills, and camera systems, among other things.

More recently, Choi expanded his business to include manufacturing medical endoscopes and disposable medical devices by acquiring the technologies of major brands and leveraging their extensive repair experience. “Today, we are recognized as a company with technical skills for surgical medical devices in Korea. We provide OEM and ODM services, and have a highly skilled and dedicated technical and research team. Furthermore, the Techcord management holds a composite of 17 patents for various medical device designs and has an extensive development history in endoscopy technology. Techcord’s engineers have the ability to model your concept using state-of-the-art 3D software. This allows clients to see the product and make necessary concept changes long before the engineering is done. We are ISO 13485 and GMP certified,” adds Choi.

One of Techcord’s crown jewels is its Posterior Stenoscopic Lumbar Decompression (PSLD)-exclusive pedicle. For years, Percutaneous Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy has been the ‘go-to’ for spinal surgeries, but a new procedure, PSLD has become more common now. While the procedure involves simply removing the spinal disc, it requires the use of various surgical instruments.

“We developed the world’s first PSLDexclusive pedicle for this operation and are exporting it worldwide. With the advent of this treatment method, more than 90 percent of spinal diseases can be treated with an endoscope,” mentions Choi. What makes the device unique is the fact that it has a smaller diameter than other endoscopes, bigger working channel, and is extremely convenient to use. “We want to provide our customers with the best service possible and emphasize quality in everything we do. To that end, we provide manufacturing flexibility and quick response to any type of repair.

” Techcord aims to launch products that are not only one step ahead of market trends but also offer enhanced performance, challenge durability and zero defects, and promptly respond to customer service. As a part of its plan for the near future, the company intends to expand and relocate its office to a site of 9,900 square meters. The new facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and automation systems, and will export its products globally with more than five times the production facilities currently available. Alongside, Techcord is coming out with a small chip-on-tip endoscope for pets. That is not all!

“The development of disposable endoscopes has been particularly active since 2015, and we will soon release a game-changing product for spine surgery that applies this technology,” wraps up Choi.
