When the Founder and CEO of SIS Medical, Willi Zwahlen observed patients struggling with undilatable calcified lesions or under-deployed stents in coronary arteries that could lead to an early stent thrombosis or in-stent restenosis (ISR), he realized both the situations would risk patients’ lives. Thus, he decided to provide simple yet high quality and effective products to solve these problems. However, he did not want to develop and produce just another range of balloon catheters or products that were already available in the market. He subsequently founded SIS Medical to develop, produce, and distribute high-performance percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) balloon catheters that are designed to make patients’ routine lives easier and help with treatment.

Switzerland-based SIS Medical was established in 2007 with the aim to provide solutions to address unsolved medical treatment problems and support the lifestyle of patients. The company manufactures cardiology-related products and provides doctors with innovative balloon catheters that include ultra-high pressure and ultra-thin PTCA balloon catheter, PTCA guide wires, aspiration and probing catheters, micro and multifunctional products along with other accessories.

SIS Medical’s super high-pressure balloon catheter—OPN NC—assists patients suffering from coronary heart disease in improving their condition and returning to their regular schedule. Owing to its unique characteristics, physicians largely recommend OPN NC for the treatment of highly calcified lesions and undilatable lesions. The salient feature of the patented catheter is its twin balloon structure that provides a dilation pressure of 35 bar to restore the blood flow in the diseased vessels and supply sufficient oxygen to the heart muscles.

OPN NC super high-pressure balloon has proved to be the most economical solution for complex PTCA and has treated over 50,000 patients successfully by dilating their narrowed heart vessels. It involves lower rates of dissections without any perforations and delivers excellent results in pre and post-dilatation by using bioresorbable vascular scaffold (BVS). The improved stent apposition offered by the catheter makes it more reliable for the treatment of ISR.

Apart from high-pressure balloons, the company is widely known for its small balloon catheters for the treatment of chronic total occlusion (CTO), subtotal occlusion (STO) or very narrow vessel stenosis. A distinctive aspect of SIS Medical’s small balloon catheter—NIC Nano 0.85 hydro—is its pressure resistance of 23 bar and 10 percent smaller crossing profile than other catheters. Due to its hydrophilic coating and ultra-low lesion crossing profile, NIC Nano 0.85 hydro catheter proves to be remarkable for doctors in the treatment of tightest lesions and CTOs.
