In an instance, in response to the alarming shortage of masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE) nationwide, Carnivore Meat Company donated the use of its ultraviolet (UV) sterilization machine to sanitize and disinfect much needed personal protective equipment (PPE) for front-line medical and public service workers throughout Northeast Wisconsin.

On March 29, the facility became the first-known fully operational, in-line UV PPE sterilizing operation in the United States. Radiant’s UV machine is an efficient, continuous conveyor driven machine that is designed to run 24/7. The UVC Conveyor was designed by Radiant Industrial Solutions for Carnivores meat processing. They UV conveyor was originally designed to reduce surface Listeria, E coli and Salmonella pathogens by 1 log on meat surfaces to meat USDA regulations, thus reducing the risk of pathogens into their final product.

Within seconds, a single mask may be sterilized up to five times through the UV machine and full utilization of the machine’s capacity could yield up to 1.4 million clean masks per week. The sterilization machine also lessens the need for new masks and could potentially result in cost savings of $2 million per week. Currently most UV systems used for repurposing PPE equipment will take up to 30 minutes for disinfection. The Radiant UV conveyor can accomplish the same results in seconds.

Further, OLT also provides EVA-1 Air Purification System, which is a medical-grade air filtration combined with UV removes particles and kills airborne pathogens. “This is highly useful for government facilities as science has proven UVC can effectively eliminate viruses. Using UV to disinfect high traffic areas is an additional measure you can take to help protect your facility and occupants,” mentions Guerrette. The medical-grade air filtration removes particulates and kills 99.99 percent of airborne pathogens. Next in line, is OLT’s Conveyor Disinfection System which has been designed to offer advanced controlled disinfection of surfaces with proven 4 Log Reduction in less than 10 seconds and comes with adjustable height capabilities for different size parcels and high-volume capabilities. In addition, the company’s Jaguar Mobile Disinfection Unit can sterilize PPE for public safety and healthcare workers during the pandemic by using high-intensity ultraviolet light to damage the DNA of bacteria and viruses that may be living on surfaces such as hospital beds, medical equipment, countertops, and workspaces.
