Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that augments the natural environment in real-time with computer-generated data. The use of augmented reality is not limited to the visual sense. Apart from adding virtual information to the natural environment, AR applications sometimes include removing or processing real objects from the real world, a concept known as mediated reality or reduced reality. Unlike virtual reality (VR), which totally immerses viewers in a computer-generated virtual world, augmented reality (AR) is based on the natural world and enriches it with computer-generated data.
AR has piqued the interest of experts from various sectors as a growing technology. Furthermore, AR has attracted corporations such as Google and Microsoft, which have developed AR gadgets such as Google Glass and HoloLens, laying the groundwork for future study. AR has been swiftly developed and implemented in various disciplines, including medicine, maintenance, and cultural assets, with the support of researchers and companies.
Healthcare has emerged as a trailblazer, particularly in direction and help applications. AR has been shown to be successful in medical education and training, surgery navigation, and gastrointestinal endoscopy, to name a few applications.
