People who have been suffering from eye problems for years have finally found relief thanks to the development of new technologies. Additionally, it has improved our understanding of how to treat many common eye diseases.
Some of the latest and most exciting recent advancements in eye care technology are as follows:
Phoropter with advanced technology: In order to correct the vision, doctors use a phoropter to determine the power and type of lens needed. It usually has a series of lenses that can be rotated and adjusted in front of the eyes. After reading the eye chart through each lens, the doctor will adjust the lens until the patient has clear vision.
Each lens is tested in turn until a pair is found that allows the patient to see clearly at all distances.
This traditional device has been improved with the Advanced Phoropter. Laser technology projects text onto a screen in front of the patient's face, allowing him or her to read it without having to print it out first. As a result, the doctor is able to make adjustments more quickly than with traditional phoropters, improving patients' experiences and saving their valuable time.
Advanced Imaging: Advanced imaging technology in eye care helps detect and diagnose various eye diseases. Additionally, it is used to measure the health of the eyes and vision in general.
In this type of technology, light, infrared, or radio waves are used to create an image of the inside of the eye. The retina, optic nerve, and other eye parts fall into this category. A computer analyzes the images to determine if the patient's eyesight is abnormal. This test can be used by doctors to determine the best course of treatment.
Gene therapy for the retina: A new, noninvasive treatment for eye diseases is retinal gene therapy. The treatment uses gene therapy to treat age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
A virus containing a healthy copy of the gene that causes AMD or RP is injected into the eye. A healthy gene is then delivered directly to the retina by the virus. Retinal Gene Therapy has many advantages: it is noninvasive, relatively safe, has few side effects, can treat people who have already lost their sight in one eye, and can even help prevent vision loss.
