Why are Chronic Wounds so Difficult to Treat?

On the other hand, doctors visually inspect the wound and swab for contamination, but they lack the information necessary for determining how the wound is progressing and changing beneath the surface. Many treatments have been successful in animals over the years. They are not as effective on humans as one might think. "Smart" dressings also have the potential to deliver medication or treatments with minimal invasiveness, according to the company's description. When used to treat chronic wounds, this "smart" bandage is equipped with a microchip and sensors that provide electrical stimulation. The bandage can be left on for up to seven days before it needs to be changed.
Researchers are hoping that one day this smart bandage will sync up with a patient's phone and transmit information to the patient and their healthcare provider in real-time. Therefore, the wound dressing would not be disturbed. In addition, wound clinic visits can be reduced.
