Optical-Passive
It is the most common and flexible technique used in the industry that uses retroreflective markers that are tracked by infrared cameras.
Optical-Active
This technique uses LED markers that emit light, which is tracked by special cameras for which they need a power backup as a battery or charger of some kind.
Video/Markerless
It is a markerless technique that relies on software to track the subjects’ movement. Varying tracking methods yield different results, but real-time and final data error ranges tend to be larger than marker-based solutions.
Inertial
This technique uses a camera as a localization tool. The subject wears inertial sensors known as IMUs, and the data from the sensors is transmitted wirelessly to a computer or smart device.
