With Kumar at the helm, MYCO began its journey 27 years ago, traditionally focusing on the supply of medical sharps and blood collection devices, and has evolved over the years in both its market presence and capabilities. Today, as a certified diversity supplier of medical devices, specializing in single-use disposable clinical preference items, MYCO plays a crucial role in supporting a large number of doctors and medical offices with best-in-class medical devices. By bringing high quality, safe, and innovative solutions to the market, the company has garnered the trust of numerous customers, including a wide range of IDNs and GPOs, as well as national and regional distributors in the U.S.

MYCO’s extensive global sourcing experience has proved particularly beneficial during a time when the healthcare industry is facing the brunt of the COVID-19 crisis. Kumar mentions that a number of customers approached MYCO during the pandemic, looking for PPE, N95 masks, and other necessary products that are in high demand but short supply. Traditionally, PPE has been sourced from the Far East, especially China, but as the domestic demand for medical supplies in China spiraled early on following the outbreak, fulfilling the global needs became increasingly difficult. To that end, MYCO is combating the supply chain challenges by sourcing PPE from different countries and non-traditional sources, and has partnered with suppliers in a region where the domestic supply exceeds demand to ensure continuous delivery of products even during peak demand periods.

Similarly, MYCO has partnered with an N95 manufacturer that previously had all the required certifications to sell their products in the U.S. but had never exported to the U.S. until COVID. MYCO put together a comprehensive supply chain for the manufacturer covering all verticals of distribution, including the Acute, dental and veterinary market.

“Importantly, as a second-tier supplier, we ensure reasonable pricing of our products compared to national brands and help our clients save significant money. We are also delivering efficiencies by moving huge volumes of PPE directly from the factory to IDNs and large distributors. Recently, a large IDN in the U.S. approached the company, looking for face mask suppliers. MYCO identified a face mask supplier through one of its affiliates in Japan and carried out desktop audits and sample reviews and with the IDN, put together committed orders through 2023. “We have vetted the products and secured the supply chain, so that we can continue to supply reliable products at competitive price,” Kumar notes.

With an elaborate sourcing network, MYCO sources products out of India, Korea, Japan, Australia, South Africa, China, and Italy. In doing so, the company follows a robust US FDA based qualification and auditing process to ensure that the products are safe for use and comply with the highest standards.

Notably, MYCO has partnered with all the major national distributors to grow its product line and also caters to some of the largest healthcare systems (among the top 10) in the country. While MYCO supplies products directly to large hospitals, for smaller practitioners, the company has partnered with non-acute distributors that supply to physicians, dentists and veterinarians. “We leverage our long-standing relationships to find the best route and the most efficient way of getting these products to the end customers,” he adds. As opposed to the multibillion-dollar brands on the market, MYCO is much nimbler in its approach and is able to make decisions swiftly with the ability to supply products quickly. In addition, the company is an NMSDC certified minority-owned supplier, which is an added advantage for healthcare providers as they can now rely on a supplier that is consistent and compliant.

Moving ahead, the company will continue to look to grow its PPE portfolio with other products like gloves and gowns. MYCO has also lined up suppliers of safety syringes to keep pace with its potential demand for administering vaccines to COVID-19 patients in the future.
