In the wake of a widespread demand in telemetry in medical services, MEZOO, established in 2018 in Wonju, Korea, has developed the HiCardi^® system that can provide medical services anytime, anywhere. In the ward, the nurse ought to check the patient’s condition periodically. To this end, for instance, the use of the HiCardi^® system not only reduces the workload but also enables rapid response by immediately alarming the change in the patient’s condition through continuous monitoring. “The patient’s quality of life can be greatly improved with the HiCardi^® system, which has no restrictions on movement without relatively large monitoring equipment. It is designed to allow remote continuous ECG monitoring on a real-time basis for the outpatient setting,” says Park Jung-hwan, the CEO of MEZOO.

Further, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, flu, and other infectious diseases, HiCardi^®’s wearable chest patch, real-time monitoring, and wireless data transmission enable the monitoring of COVID-19 patients on an isolation ward. It helps nurses to monitor the conditions of COVID-19 patients from a remote distance. As a result, it can minimize the risk of infection for the health provider. Currently, the technology applied to HiCardi^® mainly focuses on electrocardiography. The company plans to gradually expand the indications. A follow-up model that can measure biosignals such as brain waves, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and blood glucose is scheduled to be released. In addition, a patch-type biosensor that can measure body temperature, respiration, and vital signs at once is under development. Our innovative remote/realtime/ wireless HiCardi^® system supports medical professionals monitoring and managing patients who are suffering from cardiac disorders,” states Mr. Jung-hwan.

Originally started as an R&D firm that develops wearable Holter, invasive blood glucose algorithm, 3/5/12 lead ECGs, IoMT Platform, and the HiCardi^® system, MEZOO also focuses on the development and manufacturing of wearable SmartPatch^®, mobile, and webbased software. The SmartPatch^® is a rechargeable battery-operated biosensor with an integrated microprocessor and a BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) wireless transmitter. It is designed for early detection of cardiac disorders by measuring ECG, including arrhythmias, respiration, temperature, activity, body posture in real-time.

In addition, SmartView^® is a mobile application that displays the physiological data of a patient, checks the status of measurements, and transfers data wirelessly to a server, which is called the LiveStudio^®. Further, LiveStudio^® is an Internet web browser that displays and records ECG, respiration, temperature, heart rate, activity for multiple patients in real-time. Visual and Audio alarm assists clinician to take immediate intervention against any critical condition of patients. It works on a cloud-based server and is equipped with deep learning AI for higher accuracy in interpreting electrocardiograms. It would eventually replace the conventional cardiac monitor and Holter ECG due to the advantages of no wired connection, less artifact, less noise signal, and lightweight.

“Having raised $11 million through a Series A round in June 2021, MEZOO plans to collaborate with Dong-A ST’s strong sales network for Hicardi’s successful market entry. MEZOO also plans to play in a Series B round in Q2 2022. Through a partnership with Dong-A ST and approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the HiCardi system in the second quarter of 2022, it plans to focus on expanding its sales and entry into the global market. The initial public offering (IPO) is targeted for the second half of 2023. The company was also selected for the ‘International Joint Technology Development Project’ for the 21st year of industrial technology international cooperation supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, and three million US dollars is invested over three years. The future looks bright for MEZOO.
