The ophthalmic device manufacturing company has developed a full-function visual electrophysiology system— UTAS Systems—for delivering the ultimate experience to physicians, researchers, and patients. With far-reaching implications, RETeval with five patents issued is opening up new ways for physicians and researchers to better utilize visual electrophysiology to evaluate retina function through the assessment, diagnosis, and monitoring of a variety of vision-threatening diseases.

The prowess of LKC’s products was on full display when the company was approached by a doctor to assess whether or not a child has Nystagmus—a rapid eye movement—and determine if it was a primary retina or a brain disorder. LKC worked with the client and conducted trials of several patients to conclude that, with high sensitivity and specificity, one can differentiate between retina and brain issue. This was then followed by peer-reviewed publication.
