Contact lenses have become smart, taking the realm of ophthalmic to greater heights.
The industry of medical science and technology is now up on the bandwagon of evolution and revolution. The realm of ophthalmic is getting deeper and larger incentives from a huge number of reliable and efficacious high tech advancements. Technologists and researchers in the realm of ophthalmic technology are bringing together diverse and unimaginable use cases. In this context, the news today is all about the intelligent potential of a contact lens to keep track of the blood sugar level in the patient who is wearing it.
Patients who are suffering from diabetics usually have the level of glucose in their blood continuously changing. This fluctuation, in turn, needs adequate monitoring. A steep rise or a sudden drop in the level of glucose would surely result in complex and intense outcomes. These risks would cause the patient to lose consciousness and other severe complications in health. But, when these fluctuations in the level of glucose in the blood are monitored very closely and continuously, even the minutest of the minor changes can be observed by the diabetics professionals and treated well with accuracy.
As a game-changer in ophthalmic technology, smart contact lenses are complimenting diabetics technology. The contact lens is made with embedding a glucose sensor in it. This sensor measures the amount of glucose that is present in the tears of the patient and delivers this sensed data to the medical expert who is treating the patient. The data is transmitted through wireless technology. Also, the contact lens has the capability to induce insulin secretion and deliver it to the patient through the tissue if the level of glucose in the blood is lower than the normal.
This smart contact lens is replacing the multiple invasive pricks on the fingers for blood tests. Also, they automatically set the health conditions of the patient right when the blood sugar level falls down the threshold. Ophthalmic technology innovations are supporting the treatment of critical body processes intuitively.
