The integration of IoT is enabling medical device manufacturers to design and develop robust drug delivery systems.

The internet of things (IoT) is empowering the medical manufacturing industry to shed the archaic practices and embrace robust infrastructure for unlocking their full potential. As regulators and insurers become more focused on patient care, the healthcare sector is under pressure to personalize their services.
The incorporation of IoT enables physicians to diagnose and prescribe drugs to patients in the comfort of their homes. The integration of 3D food printing technology with drug delivery systems has led to innovations in patient-specific prescriptions. IoT can facilitate the automation of drug delivery systems. It will allow the drug dosages to be incorporated into the composition of the food.
IoT brings new capabilities to the healthcare sector, enabling remote healing of patients irrespective of their locations. An IoT-based drug delivery system allows for the accurate control of dosages. It enables the delivery of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and trace elements to patients.
Organizations across the world are developing robust drug delivery systems, using ingestible, sensor-equipped pills to monitor the dosages. The patients can leverage connected applications to keep track of their medications. The sensors are also designed to help physicians to monitor the adherence of their patients to the prescribed drugs.
IoT is not only enhancing adherence but is also facilitating the automation of drug delivery. Healthcare organizations are collaborating with technology companies to develop smart labels for medicines. The labels are designed to provide reminders for patients to take their medication. The patients can press a button on the product label to request refills in the case of repeat prescriptions.
Blood infusions can also witness greater accuracy and precision with the incorporation of IoT sensors, enabling the precise administration of dosages based on their age, weight, and clinical conditions. IoT enables the creation of customized medication for each patient, facilitating robust drug delivery to patients in remote locations.
The more advanced applications of IoT include the automation of drug delivery using wearable devices. They are designed to sync with mobile apps and monitor the body of the patient, to administer drug dosages whenever needed. Medical device enterprises are also developing compact implants that can store and release precise doses over extended periods. The implants contain hermetically sealed compartments designed to store minute quantities of specific drugs. The implants comprise bioelectric sensors to release the drugs into the bloodstream according to the physiological and metabolic changes in the body.
