Democratizing Ultra Widefield Swept-Source OCT

The emergence of ultra-widefield swept-source OCT represents a paradigm shift in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disorders. Overcoming the limitations of time-domain and spectral-domain OCT, it provides more detailed images of the eye’s internal structures, offering clinical benefits in managing retinal conditions and anterior segment pathologies. While swept-source OCT is not new, ultra-widefield swept-source technology is new. Ultra-widefield swept-source technology has been recently confined to academic applications due to its exorbitant cost, hindering companies from making it accessible to the masses.

Comprehensive Eye-Imaging

Powered by ultra-widefield swept-source OCT and Intalight’s proprietary algorithms, VG200 OCT can attain an imaging depth of 12 mm (in tissue) for retina imaging and 16.2 mm (in air) for the anterior segment. The device provides detailed imaging of both the fundus of the eye (retina) and the entire anterior segment, which is useful for diagnosing various anterior pathologies.

Surpassing the acquisition speed of existing OCT devices, DREAM OCT offers the fastest scanning speed between 200KHz and 400KHz. The rapid acquisition feature, along with a processing time of approximately 20 seconds, plays a crucial role in high-resolution OCT Angiography, eliminating the artifact caused by eye motions.

Over the years, ophthalmologists have also expressed their desire to capture additional peripheral vision, extending by another 30 to 40 degrees to obtain better diagnostic information. This limitation is notable when diagnosing the eye’s anterior segment. VG200 OCT fulfills this need by covering an ultrawide field of 26 mm×21mm while achieving an inner angle of up to 130 degrees on the retina with a single scan, allowing ophthalmologists to capture a wider field of view.

This feature also includes an automatic montage mode that enables ophthalmologists to combine multiple images and extend the coverage range up to 200 degrees. It allows them to go beyond the entire posterior hemisphere and gain more diagnostic information for uncovering lesions toward the edge of the retina in a non-invasive and efficient manner.

Guaranteeing Utmost Precision

Ensuring the highest standards of accuracy in ophthalmic imaging, the amalgamation of the penetrating power of VG200 OCT’s swept-source laser, optimized ‘TRUE Angio’ algorithm(Transdimensional Reconstructed Ultra-sensitive Enhanced Angio algorithm), and its unique ‘deep layer’ AI segmentation solution shows significantly greater detection sensitivity for nascent tiny pathologies and complicated lesions. It helps reduce misdiagnosis to a large extent.

While the proprietary algorithm allows for high detection sensitivity of subtle flow signals and the reduction of 3D projection artifacts, the AI-based ‘deep layer’ helps get correct segmentation in the case of complicated disorders. It enables ophthalmologists to reduce artifacts and reveal true lesions that contribute to accurate segmentation and better differentiation between normal and pathological conditions.

The raw images, especially in the anterior segment imaging and biometric measurement, undergo sophisticated corrections to account for optical distortion and light refraction. It ensures an accurate and precise quantification of biometric parameters, which are crucial for clinical decisions.

Facilitating Diverse Clinical Applications

VG200 OCT is further distinguished in the market due to its multimodal capabilities. The device is integrated with imaging modalities, such as Retinal OCT, Retinal OCTA, RNFL/GCL analysis, AS-OCT, AS-OCTA, and visualized biometry, to help ophthalmologists in the most challenging clinical and research applications.

The combination of different modalities does not compromise each modality’s performance. Instead, they work together to achieve functions that were previously considered impossible, such as the comprehensive imaging of the cornea, iris, and sclera, as well as accurate measurement of retina curvature. This opens up new possibilities for understanding the perfusion in these areas.

The built-in biometry mode also eliminates the need for ophthalmologists to use separate instruments for OCT and biometry, which had been a norm for all these years. The integration of these functions into a single device helps them streamline the diagnostic and surgical process, such as enabling improved cataract refractive surgery calculations and myopia management.
