For the disabled and elderly populations, fall-induced injuries are one of the leading causes of visits to emergency departments in the U.S. and the primary etiology of accidental deaths.

Caregivers, staff and EMS personnel frequently suffer musculoskeletal injuries resulting from lifting and moving patients, particularly those who are overweight or in awkward places. Existing sling lifts are not actually designed to raise people from the floor.

Steve Powell, the Founder and CEO of IndeeLift, was no stranger to this problem. He witnessed first-hand how his parents suffered from the day-to-day challenges of aging, especially falling. Powell invented a device to help his parents, and millions of others, who need help getting up safely from the floor. IndeeLift is driven by the mission to help people up while preserving their independence, safety, and dignity.

In 2014, Powell built the first prototypes of the Human Floor Lifts (HFL’s). The HFL-300 and HFL-400 line of Human Floor Lifts were designed for self or assisted operation in the home and care environments. There are thousands of HFL’s being utilized in homes across the United States and abroad to safely lift a fallen person from the floor eliminating the need for an EMS call. “The self-operated HFL transforms a frightening and stressful fall into a non-event, allowing everyone to return to their daily activities immediately,” states Powell.

December 2020 marked a new chapter in IndeeLift’s history as it broadened the scope of its offering to assist people with progressive degenerative muscle disorders, specifically Inclusion Body Myositis. This patient population needed a reliable device to help them get up after a fall while also raising them to a standing position. To this end, Powell created the Floor-to-Stand (FTS) the “People Picker Upper”, which effectively addresses most mobility and safe patient handling challenges.

The patented, rugged, and reliable IndeeLift FTS lifts are manufactured in the U.S. and are operated with a wired remote control in a portable roll-around configuration, assisting getting up from wherever a user may be sitting, even the floor and the tightest spaces. The FTS models can lift a person to 30 inches from the floor to achieve a full standing position.

The FTS-400 is designed for self or assisted operation in the home or care facility and serves as an effective alternative to the large, cumbersome sling lifts. It can safely lift a person of up to 400 pounds from the floor or a seated height to standing. This versatile machine also assists users to get into bed or access higher locations within their homes without climbing a ladder or stool.

The FTS-600 is designed for acute care, hospital-skilled nursing, and long-term care facilities. With a capacity of 600 pounds, this machine has been engineered to provide patient transport as well as lifts. This product is effective during the post-surgery and other recovery phases, where many patients face difficulty standing from the bed to begin walking. In such cases, the FTS-600 is positioned next to the bed. The patient slides onto the seat and is gently lifted to standing without abdominal and muscular strain. FTS-600 can also transport a patient from the bed to the toilet and be used as a standing lift to assist large or mobility challenged patients to easily get onto a radiology table/ bed, or even a normal examination table.

IndeeLift has a number of assistive products in the works to help those with disease, genetic or injury caused disabilities live with greater independence at home and care environments. IndeeLift is filing new patents in the US and EU for the multifunction capability of the FTS technology. “Our machines are the true “People Picker-Upper”.
