Driving Innovations in Spinal Fusion

The design strategies associated with lumber fusion and servo co-plating have been predominantly based on legacy methodologies. The Genesys team set out to develop core products with additional features that would benefit spine surgeons in the medical arena. The first issue that they needed to address was pedicle screw loosening. To overcome this challenge, Genesys designed a novel technology with a pedicle screw system that features a locking set-cap to enhance construct integrity and patient safety during the surgical process. This design for the set up was user-friendly and attracted numerous surgeons from the market.

Secondly, for procedures which required a plating system, surgeons required an underlying module in which screws would be contained within the plate, without twisting or backing-out once installed into the plate.

To facilitate this, Genesys developed a unique plate system with zero-additional steps to meet surgeon requirements—a servo co-plating system. It is a patented design and has even received an international design award. Furthermore, the devices introduced by Genesys are part of a broad line-up which solves issues concerning orthopedic conditions such as cervical spine treatments, thoracolumbar corrections, and treatment using biologics.

Genesys’ AIS-C Stand-Alone System is the company’s new flagship offering. It is a non-screw based system with a direct anterior, zero profile cervical spine treatment module which is designed to simplify surgeries. The comparative advantage of this system over traditional devices is that it can be revised without the need to remove the entire implant. The company brings more to the existing range of spine orthopedics by adding components that address safety concerns, aid ease of use, and increase the efficiency of operation. Along with product offerings, an onsite teaching facility is provided as well to educate users about the product through demonstrations, validations, and teaching labs.

Envisioning the future from a product perspective, Genesys is looking to manufacture 3D printing and sacroiliac fusion modules. By doubling their workspace this year, the company is planning to get through the preliminary phase of producing printed prototypes at the early stage, and to start production of the 3D printed technologies. Also, a growing product line at Genesys brings a suite of medical implants and instruments with unique characteristics into a mature spinal fusion market.
