The pandemic and the chain of disruptions that it accompanied drove the entire healthcare sector into a bout of turmoil last year. With pressure on isolation rooms and beds, it became a real challenge for hospitals to rightly handle the influx of patients while maintaining isolation measures. After more than a year into the pandemic, the scenario has not changed much for healthcare entities. They still need to follow proper isolation protocols to ensure patient safety.

This well-known surface and skincare products provider launched its revolutionary product Rediroom during COVID. “Rediroom was designed for patients who required droplet and contact precautions and as the launch of Rediroom coincidentally collided with the pandemic it was widely accepted by healthcare centers to address the urgent need for patient isolation,” mentions Philip Norville, Clinical and Scientific Director, Gama Healthcare.

Using Rediroom, hospitals can build a temporary isolation unit around a patient in less than five minutes, greatly reducing the risk of transmission. It is a mobile solution that allows hospitals to instantly isolate the patients in their current location. A canopy pops up around the patients’ bedspace, providing a wall-to-floor seal—a HEPA air-filtered isolation room. Additionally, the hand-free entry and exit option enable nurses and doctors to exit the unit without touching anything, nullifying the chances of contamination. “Rediroom increases isolation capacity for patients that require contact and droplets precautions, protecting other patients and hospital staff from infections,” says Norville.

From the usability standpoint, any healthcare worker and nurse on the ward can set up this user-friendly device. However, to help clients get up and running, Gama Healthcare provides in-depth training on how to assemble and take down Rediroom.

Rediroom consists of a trolley that opens up around the bed space. The staff needs to insert a canopy into the trolley and replace it with every patient use. “We provide clients with the basic training of loading the canopy correctly, and the deploying Rediroom correctly.

We also train them on how to take down the Rediroom and dispose of the canopy correctly, and decontaminate Rediroom so it can be used for the next patient,” says Allen Hanouka, Joint CEO and Co-Founder, Gama Healthcare. “We believe that proper training is crucial to use any product effectively.” Quickly realizing the benefits of Rediroom, many hospitals and healthcare centers utilized multiple units to increase their isolation capacity and streamline the patient flow. They could temporarily isolate patients who’s COVID status was unknown until COVID test results were available and the patient could follow the correct healthcare management pathway. Isolating patients until their COVID status was known resulted in reducing exposure and contacts to COVID positive patients, which may of aided the prevention of the spread of infection to other patients and staff members as well.
