Offering Flexible Tinnitus Aid

People suffering from tinnitus often face problems in sleeping, depression, irritation, and difficulties with social gatherings. This is where Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT)—a cognitive behavioral therapy in combination with listening to white noise—promises a feasible way forward. The recommendation is to listen to white noise for 6-8 hours a day for 6-24 months.

During this period, many people only listen to sounds, such as white noise, to relieve symptoms. But today’s technical solutions for listening to white noise are not flexible. The most common method is to listen to white noise via an app on the phone and earplugs. This means, for example, patients cannot treat themselves during working hours or when they sleep.

“Duearity addresses a large but forgotten market, namely tinnitus, with innovative products and services. We estimate that the market consists of at least five percent of a population,” states Mr. Fredrik Westman, the CEO of Duearity Solution.

Founded on the mission of improving the lives of people who have suffered from tinnitus globally, Duearity is developing the world’s smallest and most flexible tinnitus aid, which emits white noise. “I have had tinnitus for a long time and underwent TRT and then discovered that today’s technical aids are neither flexible nor medtech-classified,” mentions Mr. Peter Arndt, the founder of Duearity Solution. “I have a long background in the development of quality medical products and have owned and run a number of different companies. With Duearity, I have had the opportunity to bring together a group of experts to change the face of tinnitus treatment.”

Leveraging Bone Conduction Technology

Having a deep understanding of the people who have problems with tinnitus, Duearity has set the mission to bring intelligent solutions that will offer this patient population the opportunity to live a healthier life. The company aims to offer solutions in the form of Tinearity and Tinearity-AI. On the one hand, Tinearity transmits white noise using Bone Conduction Technology to the inner ear in order to relieve symptoms and facilitate everyday life for those suffering from tinnitus. On the other hand, Tinearity AI aims to help people easily cope with their problems. By measuring body values and collecting those in an app and cloud solution, the product can use algorithms to help people predict when tinnitus symptoms may worsen. This gives the person the opportunity to manage the symptoms at an early stage and stop them from getting worse. Another aspect is that people with tinnitus and who undergo TRT together with a treating therapist, with the help of the information in the app and the cloud, can analyze and decipher the causes of worsening symptoms. This is an important prerequisite for being able to understand and manage the symptoms. “Our device can be used at work, leisure, or during sleep. This has been possible owing to the bone conduction technology that we use,” says Mr. Westman.

Duearity started its pre-marketing earlier this year with the aim of testing messages, images, and channels in communication with people suffering from tinnitus. “The response has been overwhelming and confirms that we are on the right track. Many people with tinnitus want to try our Tinearity. And the response from audiologists and therapists have been really good; they think our device is great for those who want treatment and relief,” states Mr. Arndt.

Further, they have also given positive responses about Duearity’s Tinearity-AI. “We have learned lessons from communication, so now we know how to conduct marketing communication in a very efficient way as we approach the sharp launch of Tinearity in early 2022,” says Mr. Westman. Duearity will initially sell directly to customers in Europe via its e-commerce platform. “Through communication and advertising in digital media, we will first market Tinearity and then Tinearitiy-AI in 2023/24,” he mentions.

The Road Ahead

Duearity also intends to enter the North American market in 2022. That’s why they are currently searching for partners. “We have been considering collaboration opportunities with prospective partners for some time and it looks very bright with regard to the American market—which for various reasons can be very important,” says Mr. Westman.

He further mentions that Duearity has good opportunities globally, as the pre-marketing campaign has received a good response in several different regions, especially in Europe, North America, and Asia. “We are in the final stages of our proof of concept for Tinearity-AI. This will be completed in September this year. The most important thing is probably that we are convinced that the company will have a cash flow from the start of sales of Tinearity in 2022,” concludes Mr. Arndt.
