Delving into the workings of its system, the process begins with BOH’s medical team collecting exhaled breath (EB) samples in specialized bags that retain a stable environment for maintaining molecular integrity.

During the processing step, The BOH system turnrs the air sample into an aerosol that consists of small size droplets measured by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry to detect specific OCs or biomarkers that indicate certain diseases, including cancer. This involves evaluation through the absorption of infrared light, which creates unique scales. At this stage, the cutting-edge BOH solution harnesses the power of machine-learning algorithms to swiftly and accurately identify relevant bio-markers at a molecular level, accelerating the relevance of exhalome testing in the broader diagnostics space.

Apart from these, the company is working on an AI-driven methodology that has showcased test results exhibiting a 90 percent proficiency in identifying patients with prostate cancer.

This system showed promising outcomes when screening for lung, colorectal, and breast cancers. By commercializing the solution, BOH is set to simplify the diagnosis of complex diseases without compromising accuracy.

It runs product tests at three specialized centers in the US, Israel, and Spain. The American research arm is focused on boosting breast cancer detection, with the leading Brigham Women’s Hospital playing a pivotal role in use case studies. Meanwhile, the Spanish facility’s investigations pertain to streamlining lung tumor diagnosis.

BOH’s impact is exemplified by its potential to transform breast cancer screening. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), only 65 percent of eligible women get regular mammograms as recommended, leaving the rest at risk. Bridging the gap driven by invasive and uncomfortable screening procedures, its non-invasive solution encourages more women to acquire mammograms, identify issues early, and achieve better health.

Similarly, BOH has achieved remarkable success in colorectal cancer diagnostics. A recent case involving three individuals who volunteered to provide a breath sample for the general population cohort were diagnosed by BOH to be requiring a colonoscopy all had positive results in colonoscopy with very small polyps detected in one of the subjects. This individual was asked to come in for follow-ups over the next year to maintain care continuity and prevent unaccepted prognoses.

Typically, patients in these scenarios do not go for recommended tests due to their hesitance in conventional testing procedures. BOH resolves this dilemma by simplifying the screening while markedly boosting patient compliance. Utilizing its solution, the patient could comfortably undergo ongoing tests to monitor polyp growth and ensure no further progression occurred.

This case study illuminates the need for better education and expertise around breath-based cancer diagnostics.
