This simulator has assisted 36 percent of the surgeons in Korea in shifting their surgical plans from Fontan procedures, which are demanding on patients, to ventricular septal defect (VSD) repair.

The surgical guides are specialized physical tools with similar functionalities to surgical navigation systems. They offer precise, step-bystep instructions for intricate procedures such as drilling, sawing, and resection and serve as helpful tools in orthopedic and tumor resection surgeries.

Anymedi’s breast conserving surgery guide is a medical device utilizing 3D printing technology to visualize and mark tumor locations and volumes for minimizing incisions. It supports the safe removal of tumors by reducing radiation exposure and patient discomfort, which are typically associated with traditional localization procedure.

“Our breast conserving surgery guides have a proven track record of bringing down cancer recurrence rates by 34 percent three years after surgery,” says Kim.

The entire workflow seamlessly operates within a robust software platform supported by cloud computing infrastructure. Using this platform, surgeons can efficiently review and finalize orders, including complex surgical plans, even within a demanding clinical environment.

For instance, in procedures like rhinoplasty, it begins with CBCT imaging to capture detailed nasal anatomy. In a quantitative study that considered 50 post-surgery cases, it was found the average error between the planned nose shape using the virtual modeling software and the actual surgical outcomes was less than 1mm, depicting their excellence. These results were presented at the Rhinoplasty Society of Asia in 2023 and will be published for peer review by mid-2024.

Its automated surgical planning system that uses a learning algorithm for medical image analysis gives Anymedi an edge over the competition. Developed at Seoul Asan Hospital, combining data from numerous complex surgeries, it has amassed a wealth of data that quantifies surgical expertise. Leveraging this data, the platform can autonomously generate customized surgical guides and complete the implant design and production in less than three days.
